Fiordland

picture of Fiordland

Fiordland stretches for over 124 miles or 200 kilometers, from Milford Sound in the north to Preservation Inlet in the south. In the East the forest gives way to the dry pastures of Southland.
The Tasman Coast lies on the west, and in the north is the Southern Alps.
Fiordland's has an amazing serrated coastline with deep spanning lakes carved out by glaciers millions of years ago, this left behind a land internationally celebrated for its fabulous scenery, remoteness and uninhabitied surroundings which is now a World Heritage designated Area.
Be careful as this is one of the wettest places in the world. Waterfalls tumble down steep mountains to the sea and rain enriches the forests.
Out of all the fiords lining the south western corner of NZ, the Milford Sound is one of the most stunning.
Many visitors travel to Milford Sound and take a cruise on the Sound beneath the magnificence of Mitre Peak.
Dolphins, penguins, and seals are all to be seen. The Underwater Observatory at Milford sound features impressive coral, and fish. Day excursions are available departing from Queenstown are available to The Milford Sound.
Fiord land has a global reputation for walking tracks which include the famous Milford Track, Kepler, Routeburn, Hollyford and Greenstone. The town of Te Anau is the entry to Fiord land National Park and the starting point for many of the fabulous walks.
